PediaSwim Certified - What does that mean? Why should you choose this certification when looking for an instructor?

"Infants, toddlers, and children will learn appropriate swimming postures to allow them to swim facedown in the water, to rotate onto their back to a floating position that enables them to rest and breathe, then return to a facedown swimming posture." https://southwestaquatics.com

"PediaSwim is a comprehensive infant swimming instructor certification program teaching infants and toddlers to swim-float-swim for fun and safety. In three to five weeks children learn to swim face down, kicking in correct posture and then rolling into a calm float, then flipping back over into a propulsive swim." www.PediaSwim.com

It means the instructor you are hiring to teach your child has been educated one on one extensively, in the water, 5 days per week, full days for four weeks minimum, hands on, with many children from 6 months to 3 years old. This includes anatomy & physiology to gain understanding on how water impinges a child. Behaviorism, to understand why PediaSwim techniques are so effective. Child development, to gain understand of a child's cognitive and motor development at different ages. And especially safety, so that the most effective lesson possible can be delivered to you and your family.

HOW LONG/OFTEN ARE LESSONS?

They're only 10-15 minutes in length! Monday - Thursday! (If longer lessons are desired for older children, it can be discussed and priced). "Chunking" of information in shorter periods of time with small children is a far more effective way to help them learn and retain what they are being taught.  Repetition of the skills and piecing it together gradually helps it to become second nature.

Please DO NOT try to duplicate what the instructor is doing at home or in the tub! This may extend learning time in the pool.

Nervous? We get it! Don't wander away or pace, but don't interrupt either! Your little one can tell when you're nervous. 🫣Watch if you'd like, relax, grab a water, be a cheerleader quietly, and reinforce your little one's great work with big smiles and thumbs up! 👍👏😁

WHAT ABOUT SPIT UP/BURPS?

It is normal for kids to swallow a little water when learning breath control. They will either burp or pass gas to release this. If they ate and the air went below the food, it might not be pretty because it comes up sometimes with the burp. It is not a problem if it does. Don't worry! Consider switching their eating schedule; a no-food or drink rule 45 minutes before a lesson might work & if it happens again, consider extending the time to an hour or more to allow for digestion.

🫶🤔Don't forget to bring a towel to lay your little one on after their lesson for just a moment by the pool, to work out any remaining burps and then to snuggle them in. 🫶

DO NOT USE FLOTATION DEVICES!

No puddle jumpers, lifejackets, armbands, water wings, floaties, rings, etc. These provide a FALSE sense of security ❤️‍🩹🚫 and can even UNDO what your child is learning or has learned!  💸

Please allow me to safely and effectively do my job for you. I know this might be challenging at first, but I promise it will be worth it.

The only flotation devices I will advocate for or reinforce the use of, are those required by law and mandated by the U. S. Coast Guard and Marine Patrol while boating, fishing, etc.

There are no good substitutions for strong swim skills and the EYES OF ADULTS IN THE WATER AT ALL TIMES and there is never a good reason to reintroduce floaties to your child while they're learning these survival swim skills or after!
